   We’re three days in with our new vacuum, and so far, it’s been a frustrating experience. Not once has it successfully returned to the docking station on its own. It gets stuck easily, which highlights poor obstacle detection, and the battery life is underwhelming. I’m already looking into whether a larger battery is available as an upgrade.

   On the positive side, the new app is a step up—intuitive and more responsive than previous versions. I also appreciate the addition of LiDAR, which allows the vacuum to operate reliably in complete darkness, something our previous J7+ couldn’t handle.

   Unfortunately, despite those improvements, I can’t recommend this model in its current state. We purchased it because our J7+ stopped working, and I didn’t want to go backward with an older model. But unless these issues are resolved with updates or hardware fixes, it’s not worth the upgrade.

   This was our first venture into robot vacuums. In general we were very impressed with its performance. One observation is that if you suffer from pet hair then get the model specifically designed for that. We only have “visitor” dogs yet the hair was sufficient to clog the vacuum. However the design is such that it is easy to clean

   Just bought our first ever Roomba this weekend and we love it so far for our new house. My wife and I work crazy hours and have a dog and a cat. It’s become impossible to keep the floors as clean as we’d want so we took the plunge on this.

   Set up was easier than I was expecting and the app is pretty simple to use. It mapped the house in about 15 minutes and I named the rooms. Then we picked out cleaning per room and let it do its thing.

   Wasn’t too loud and didn’t bump into things. Thought it might fall down the stairs with the door open and it thankfully did not.

   Overall, did a great first job of cleaning and I didn’t need to touch it or empty it (it does that itself). The wife wants to maybe run it daily while we’re at work so will come back and update later when we try that. Very happy with our new cleaning bot Uhtred (its new name – big Last Kingdom fan here).

   The concept is great, but it simply doesn’t work. I’d give negative stars after calling customer service for “support.” The first one I ordered could not get past the map stage. “Support” verified a problem with the machine, but never followed up with the email. So a replacement was sent through vacuum-sale.com (thank goodness I purchased through there) The replacement was able to create a map (after a lengthy software update out of the box) but failed on the first cleaning attempt. The unit would not shut off and left a pile of rubber from the burn out it was doing in the 45° corner. “Support” could not get the unit to shut off, asked me to make the attached video, and then never followed up. When calling to ask about any damage done to my floor, I was hung up on.

   Arrived on time and in perfect condition. Our child is extremely excited about the “robot in the box.” It works well so far – setup was easy and it’s quiet and seems durable. In a house with a three year old, three cats, and two full-time jobs, this will be an great addition. We need all the help we can get, and it’s nice to know our Roomba will be working while we’re away.

   I was debating whether to give this a 3-star or 4-star rating, but ultimately gave it 3 stars. It’s a good vacuum robot for a smaller, less cluttered home. Pros: • I like how it looks; the black color and textures are nice. • It feels durable. There are bumpers on both the front and back. • I like the long brush. Near my fireplace, there’s a platform where dirt and dust collect underneath. The long brush is able to reach into the cracks and clean effectively. • It starts by outlining the rooms like most robot vacuums do, using the brush to push debris toward the center of the room. The Roomba has a long brush and spins it at high speed to move trash efficiently toward the middle. • The wheels are bigger, so it’s able to get over the hardwood divider. Something my other vacuum robot can’t do (see picture of the divider). Cons: • The lidar AI isn’t as good as other vacuum robots. It got stuck between my dining room chairs, and I had to manually help it out (see picture of the chairs). The chair legs are chrome, so maybe that threw off the lidar, but my other robot vacuum doesn’t have trouble in the same area. When it got stuck, it stopped vacuuming and claimed it was done, even though the room mapping clearly showed it wasn’t (see pic). • It also got stuck on my coffee table legs (see pic). I can’t penalize the Roomba too much for this since my other vacuum also gets stuck there. • The battery life isn’t as good as my other vacuum. Cleaning just two large rooms used up 50% of the battery. • I tried bringing the Roomba downstairs, but it had trouble connecting to my Wi-Fi router, which is on the main level. My other vacuum didn’t have that issue. Conclusion: If your home is single-level and you don’t mind occasionally helping the robot when it gets stuck, this could be a good option. The hardware is solid, but the software, navigation, and AI still need improvement. It might be worth spending a bit more for a better performing model.

    I already have/had a robot vacuum, knock off not name-brand, and it is kind of a pain to take out the basket after every 2nd use. It also has a tendency to get stuck or ‘lost’ under the couch, beds, the dining room table, etc.,. So far this Roomba seems a lot ‘smarter’ than my old robot vacuum; doesn’t get stuck or lost, it seems to remember the map once it completes the procedure, and generally performs better in just about every way. Plus, 75 days without having to dump the bin! I will probably only go a month or so, but I will also use it a lot more than my previous vac.

    Switched from Shark to my first Roomba! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! I didn’t realize how much I was missing until I tried Roomba 105. It’s smarter, quieter and actually finishes the job without getting stuck. The mapping is on point and the suction is so much more stronger than my old Shark. The price is a game changer, even better with promotion.
